Now for the BIGGEST question. How will this pan out for the rest of the season? We seen Jr. have all sorts of problems last year when he was leaving DEI. I hope Tony still makes the chase but you know now he will be getting all the left overs and he won't be getting the good stuff.
???
Gibbs is not a money grubbing step-mother. He is a competitor just as Tony is. Gibbs would love nothing more than for Tony to win it all in one of his Toyotas, even if it is the last time it would happen. Also Gibbs has a little more integrity than to sabotage a driver over something as petty as this. Both Tony and Gibbs will give their all to win because that is all they know. As for next year, I hope that Tony continues to enjoy success. I know he will be more comfortable being back in a Chevy. The real question is how long before Tony joins Hendrick (as all the top racers seem to be doing)?
As a Stewart fan I am happy for Tony and believe he will be a huge influence on the sport for many years to come. I just hope that includes success on the track. My gut insticnt is that he won't be contending for championships for quite a while.
With Tony becoming a owner I don't think you will ever see him go to hendrick. He will have a lot of work to do with the haas team and may not be very consistent next year but I think he will turn things around and be a great owner. I don't see him getting bad rides with Gibbs just because he is leaving at the end of the year. This may actually help the team perform better knowing that its Tony's last hurrah with the team. The stress level should be down. I think they will take a few more chances as a team now trying to get some wins and have Tony leave on a good note. Who replaces Tony at the end of the year? Maybe Mears or will they go right to the Nationwide series and pluch thier driver that has ran well but has limited expierience? ( Lagano)
With all of the drama over it is my hope that Tony will dedicate himself to performing on the track like he is capable of. The dream scenario is to make the Chase and win his third Championship. Unfortunatley, I think he will be mentally consumed with getting ready for next year and will continue to be distracted. I hope not but being an owner/driver seldom produces the best driver or owner.
What I think will prove to be interesting, and for someone who has admitted to enjoying a bit of controversy, is the potential for Tony's personality "quirks" (trying to be nice) to really fly loose with the new situation. How many times have we been told after he has one of his moments that Gibbs will sit him down and give him the "talk"? Wasn't Joe Gibbs absence used as an excuse at times for Tony's behavior? Well, who is the boss now? Who does he have to answer to?
No surprises here. Newman is the lead because he and Stewart have similar backrounds in racing and where they are from. Ryan is also a great qualifer and can get the car in show. I'd say its a safe bet somebody from TSR or from USAC will be the first development guy signed by this team.
To whoever said it wont be long before Tony join Hendrick, u r wrong.. Hendrick had an opportunity to pick up Tony just this past week and did not pursue him, instead got Mark Martin. I just dont think Tony would fit in well with JG, JJ, Junior, and Martin
