THE "SILENCE" IS BROKEN !!!---
Tribe- what happened to your 1948 Indian World Series ring avatar? I see it's been replaced by an avi that's 4x worse....4 more loser teams !!
As for the post below, it is only a lame attempt to stop discourse and examination of the two pricipals running for office on the Republican side. Call me an idealist if you must, but I expect that the people running for higher office to be a cut above the rest. This pair is so blatantly ignorant.
I'd refer you to a work by Twain about extra votes for citizens based upon both wealth and knowledge accrued. The wealthy would be entitled to extra votes based upom their wealth. And the educated would be entiltled to extra votes based upon their learning. These extra votes based on knowledge would never be taken away., and the extra votes based upon wealth would be determined by that person's wealth at election time.
The wealth based extra votes would be named "mortal votes" and the learning-based votes would be named "immortal votes".
The name of the work escapes me, but to me it makes perfect sense.
Would respond to these, but it would be rhetorical at best. There is no point in arguing this drivel.
Your candidate couldn't even remember the name on the band he supposedly wears on his wrist daily. Get over it. No politician is there because they are Einstein, but because they supposedly are to represent the thoughts of what the majority of people they represent are thinking.
We can call them liars, which is a mispronunciation of lawyers (which may be apporpriate in both directions) or understand they say things that others believe.
If you want to convince someone, it is hard to do if you start by calling someone a liar or stupid. If it bothers you so much, look in the mirror and ask yourself truthfully what you see. If it applies to you, maybe you might understand that they are human too.
Of course you could be one ot the completely arrogant that I have met on these boards and think you are so much smarter than everyone else, in which case I beg to differ and respectfully submit that there is no further need for discourse.
regards
Nice post. short,sweet and honest!

Unfortunately, silence should only be broken if you can improve on it. I see such is not the case.
"Discourse" is only if it is being discussed in comparative terms not one sided shouts of incompetence that reasonably apply to both sides.
In essence both sides are trying to convince people that a vote for them is not a mistake. Calling someone a dolt for their opinion is not convincing, it is arrogance, in effect saying I am so much smarter than you, when in fact your cognitive abilities are just as limited as those of anyone else. Beware those you tread on, even the lowliest has a story to tell and knows something that you don't.
Prove your intellect and your honesty by saying you do not know it all, as did Einstein, our most famous genius, and the high and mighty claims seem less important and the ideals that you discuss become something more palatable. Those who are thouroughly convinced are ideologues and have neither soul to understand nor intellect to change.
Neither side has a claim to all the blame, ineptitude or greed. Hope you understand what I am saying, for if not, we are still going in circles.

Dang it, let me finish...
O-G-R,
Don't even try it, you never seem to reply to any post directly. Just trying to tie people up in the same straw-man straitjacket --- you and your thesaurus arm in arm.
Won't work, I won't bite. But , you always have been an interesting poster and I give you credit for a unique point of view. I'd rather discuss another issue, please take time and read the short story below:
"The Curious Republic of Gondour" by Twain and please let me know your opinion.

"The Curious Republic of Gondour" by Twain and please let me know your opinion.
Was read some eons ago as I recall. Found it an interesting topic and a novel, no pun intended, idea of a most prolific writer. Unfortunately, it is fantasy as proved by the science fiction writers who spun off of his ideas. They are and were also imaginative and creative. Still found it hard to accept.
I don't mean to sound crass, but another poster began challenging me about things read and interpreted. I ignore him both spontaneously and assiduously. Don't wish to place you in that category as I think you wish to have some type of serious debate.
I am fairly well read, it is just that I don't happen to take away the same things as others do. I was told by another poster that I didn't understand my own religion, had no concept of evolution and was uniformed as to the writings of the Modernist era, when he said my views were, "beyond the pale". I doubt if he even remembered what that meant, but I decided it was no longer worth my time to converse with the arrogant and self satisfied. I do not wish to have that type of discussion nor do I wish a shouting match.
I have read the entire Bible and am starting through it again, have read numerous histories, anthologies of literature and poetry, including some of the classic collections and have read more than I care to of most every scientific theory which I have contacted. I do continue to read, but find less and less original thought, an anathema to self enlightenment.
You want my view so I tender it. I feel there should be one person one vote, as each who votes has their own worth. Some are smarter, some are richer, some are better educated. I have read the same things in Heinlein and his discourse on citizenship. Having served, I would qualify for such citizenship, but I also feel it is also not right. No one comes to vote with the same experience nor the same level of worth that makes them who the | |
